What is Plastibell?

Plastibell circumcision is the usage of a plastic ring applied around the foreskin allowing the skin to naturally fall off.

Procedure

Circumcision is a procedure which removes the foreskin, most commonly carried out for religious purposes. We accomodate all faiths.

Procedure
  1. Informed consent and pre-procedure checklist

  2. Baby placed on a specially designed mattress

  3. Lidocaine local anaesthetic applied

  4. Aseptic technique using sterilised equipment to apply plastibell and remove foreskin

  5. Post Op monitoring for 30 minutes in clinic

  6. Post Op advice and 24/7 dedicated aftercare helpline

Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure. At KS Clinic we provide high levels of aftercare with a dedicated line for 24 hour support.

It is important following the procedure to monitor the wound.

What to expect

  • The penis will have a plastic ring around it

  • The ring will fall off on its own in 5 to 10 days

  • There maybe some swelling and bruising initially which will resolve within a few days

  • Redness maybe normal at the start – any temperatures must be reported

  • Small spots of bleeding is common

Home Care After Surgery

  • Change Diapers often. Use 1-2 sizes larger to reduce sticking

  • Avoid commercial diaper wipes

  • Rinse the area regularly

  • Bathing- Gently clean with soap and water 2-4 times every day until the ring comes off and the penis is healed

  • Apply vaseline or olive oil drops to the tip of the penis to stop sticking with every diaper change until the ring falls off

  • Feeding can be done as normal post procedure

  • Your child will be given local anaesthesia to make it a pain free procedure. Rocking and cuddling the baby will provide reassurance. Advice will be provided regarding analgesia in clinic

  • THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS FOR USE OF CAR SEATS. YOUR CHILD SHOULD RIDE IN HIS CAR SEAT AS USUAL

When to contact us

  • Pain that does not get better with pain medication

  • Fever over 37.9 degrees celcius

  • More than a few drops of blood on penis or diaper

  • Redness that starts to spread from the tip of the penis

  • Pus like drainage or foul odour from the penis

  • Fewer wet nappies than before

  • Ring stays on for more than 10 days or falls off before 3 days

  • The ring slips down the penis past the head of the penis

  • The head of the penis is blue or black
